Joakim is actually son of a Lorathi warrior who defected from Lorath. After the war with Norvos, Joakim’s father escaped into the hills of Norvos and eventually fell in love with an escaped Norvoshi slave.

Joakim grew up in the hills, among other rejects from both Lorath and Norvos. Although, there were always quarrels, With insight from both his mother and father, and having heritage from both places, Joakim was always able to help resolve and settle conflict. It is for this reason, that Joakim became a respected leader of the vagabond camp.

Joakim met Gregoriy Al-Tem sometime thereafter. After seeing Gregoriy heal his father of his cloud left eye, Joakim was instantly made a believer and a follower of the Order of the Darkwash.

Joakim’s mother and father had left shortly thereafter, not saying where they were going. Word has it they headed westward. Although becoming close to Gregoriy, and believing in his miracles, he may have followed Gregoriy over to Westeros more to find where his parents went off to.
