Oberyn Martell "The Red Viper"
Younger Brother of Prince Doran Martell
Oberyn has the features of a salty Dornishmen. He is a tall, slender, graceful, and fit man, and has a lined and saturnine face with thin eyebrows, black “viper” eyes and a sharp nose. His hair is lustrous and black with only a few silver streaks and recedes from his brow into a widow’s peak.
Oberyn has always been fierce. He has a fearsome and notorious reputation. According to Lord Tywin Lannister, Oberyn has always been half-mad. Oberyn’s brother Doran has described him as “deadly, dangerous, and unpredictable”, stating that “no man dared tread on him”. However, Doran also claims Oberyn is rash. A witty man who is sharp of tongue, Oberyn has claimed to have been “a monstrous young fellow” in his youth. Rumor has it that Oberyn is bisexual. Oberyn is a renowned warrior, quick as a water snake and very athletic.
Oberyn was lounging in brothel barge in Planky Town at the dawn of 287 AC, with his arm draped over Othello, when a gristled old knight barged in. The man, Ser Darron, sought to hire Othello as a shipwright. Oberyn objected impatiently, explaining he and his daughter had already agreed to a contract for passage to Vaith aboard Othello’s boat. Before Oberyn lost his patience Obara entered complaining of boredom. She challenged the knight to a series of contests and if bested in the majority would convince her father to release Othello from his contract. This was agreeable to all and Oberyn observed the contests sternly the next day. He even bled during the whipping contest when his daughter missed her mark.
