Campaign of the Month: December 2020
House Jasper
Ronnel Jasper
The Lord Of The House
Description:
Ronnel’s eyes are his most distinguishing feature. Though unseeing their milky white coloring is off putting to some. His once strong body has been crippled by the years, and his shuffling gait provides little locomotion. His hands and arms shake when at rest and each movement takes great effort.
Bio:
Ronnel’s parents were Illyn Jasper and Wylla Manderly. In Ronnel’s younger days he was an athlete and found comely by men and women alike. Upon reaching the age of majority in 243 AC he spent two years touring the Free Cities; in moments of reflection he seems to cool when speaking of his time in Braavos. In 245 AC he wed Alys Darklyn of Duskendale following a short courtship. The pair met at a Tourny in which Ronnel won both the archery contest and the steeplechase. As the story goes. It wasn’t long after their wedding win Ronnel’s health began to fail and in a show of his resilience he then turned his efforts to political and scholarly pursuits. It’s said that he has always carried himself with grace despite his ailments. His shadowcat, Chance, is a constant companion. Ronnel’s son Theodore is his only son and heir.
Lord and Lady Jasper received Teddy, Dolins, Calaila, and Maelys after they returned to Snownook with the knight who had been impersonating House Jasper and pillaging the lands of House Baelish. A trial for the man, Ser Gyles, was set to occur upon Lord Arryn’s arrival. Calaila was also given a promotion and has been named the House Jasper Mistress of Whispers.
Along with his wife, Ronnel held audience with Darron, Jardon, Carsen, and Thaddeus after they returned from their recruiting progress. Firstly, the Jaspers allowed Ser Yoren to leave as he had arrived at Snownook under false pretense (the fault of the Jasper knights). Then, Lady Ella, Ser Cedric, and Ser Phillip took their oaths of service before Ser Darron.
House Jasper hosted Ser Gyles’s trial for oathbreaking in 284 AC. As both host and the house responsible for Gyles’s apprehension Ronnel testified in his trial. He expressed that he believed Gyles had acted under instruction from a Lynderly, but did not believe it was within Lord Lynderly’s character to be the authority behind the false knight. He suggested Jana Lynderly as the culprit.
During the receiving of gifts after the wedding of Robert and Cersei Lord Arryn introduced Teddy and Ronnel Jasper who gifted a shadowcat to the royal couple.
Teddy and Jardon met with Ronnel in his room in the Tower of the Hand days after the royal wedding and proposed an expedition to Valyria. Ronnel eventually gave his unenthusiastic consent. Before the expedition for Valyria departed in November of 284AC Ronnel named Jardon Captain of the Guard for his valor, command skills, and marksmanship. He tasked Jardon with protecting his heir in Valyria.
Lord and Lady Jasper were overjoyed when the vessel carrying their son and his travel companions sailed in to the waters south of Snownook in April of 285 AC. After welcoming the Valyrian expedition home with a private dinner in Snownook’s hall, they shared the recent tragedy of Ser Perin’s murder. The homecomers were tasked with solving the murder as none of them could possibly be the culprit. The homecomers in turn shared the passing of Tito Alfah in their travels. It was also decided that the three dragon eggs from the expedition would be stored in the vault for the time being until the Maester could be consulted when his sabbatical at the citadel ended. All agreed to keep the existence of the eggs secret until that time.
In February of 286 AC Ronnel let some of his household know of his increasing fatigue. He created a council, headed by his heir, to take much of the burden of ruling off his aged shoulders.
The Lord and Lady of House Jasper attended their son’s wedding at Snakewood in 286 AC. The wedding itself went smoothly enough, despite fears that lingering tensions from the Storming of Snakewood would boil over. However, both Lord and Lady have fears that their house’s lineage is hamstrung by Jana Lynderly, the bride, remaining at Snakewood. Those concerns were shared with their son immediately upon their safe arrival home.
In June of 287 AC Gregoriy convinced Ronnel to participate in a ritual. The lord was hesitant but agreed. They traveled to the Coldwater Burn where Gregoriy dripped bear blood on the lord’s eye as he lay in the water and performed other odd rituals. Lord Ronnel rose having regained his sight. Gregoriy was promised to always have a place at Snownook as a show of appreciation. Ronnel would later revive and old Andal tradition naming Gregoriy “Beacon-Of-Light” (giving him dominion of matters of spirit and justice).
Following the theft of the dragon eggs Ronnel declared he would seek to have the eggs returned himself, after hearing that the ship they were on was sailing for Braavos. He explained he had spent a year or two there in his youth and may still have some contacts that would be useful. Ser Denys would accompany him as his sworn shield and the sailors of House Jasper’s warships would serve as his guards. They would also be transporting the traitorous Ser Shaymus to his exile.
